Cygnus region

Cygnus is a northern constellation on the plane of the Milky Way, deriving its name from the Latinized Greek word for “swan”. Cygnus is one of the most recognizable constellations of the northern summer and autumn, and it features a prominent asterism (star pattern) known as the Northern Cross. Cygnus is one of the constellations that the Kepler satellite surveyed in its search for exoplanets, and as a result, there are about a hundred stars in Cygnus with known planets, the most of any constellation. One of the most notable systems is the Kepler-11 system, containing six transiting planets, all within a plane of approximately one degree. It was the first system with six exoplanets to be discovered.

Photographing Cygnus area is my first mosaic project, and a bold one. The mosaic consists of 27 panels with an initial exposure of one hour per panel using the Optolong L-Ultimate 2" HaOIII filter. The plan is to add every year additional data to the panels, more hours to the panels that have nebulas in them.

Below you can check the current mosaic project in progress, only 11 panels from the overall 27. After stacking and stitching the first 11 panels, the image is already 3GB, a real strugle for my computer during the post-processing phase.

Use the following button to download the full size high resolution image for the first 11 panels. The image was processed using Siril for 3 nights (10, 11, 12 July 2026) totaling close to 10h session stacking and followed the post-processing guidelines for dual narrowband filters video.
